  • Gabriel Cardinal and she were married on 7 April 1682 at Notre-Dame de Montreal in Montréal, Quebec, Canada.2
  • She died on 4 December 1722 at age ~65 in Île Jésus, Quebec, Canada+.
  • Her name was also spelled Anne-Marie Fanesque.3
  • Anne-Marie Phanseque was also known as Anne-Marie Vanzeque.
  • She was also known as Anne-Marie Van Zeig.
  • She was also known as Anne-Marie Fannexexe.
  • She was also known as Anne-Marie Vandezeque.
  • She was also known as Anne Marie Zeigt.
  • She was also known as Anne-Marie Von Seck.
  • She had person sources.4
  • Her name at Marriage was an attempt to spell her German name. Marie-Ann could not write so the recorded name was a phonetic translation.

Daughter of the Captain of the Calvary of the Imperial Troops, her father was deceased before she became Fille du Roi. One of the first Germans (Note: Germany did not exist at that point in time - Hambug was the capital of a city/state)
Fille de la Haute Société - Protégée of Marguerite Bourgeois who sailed with her from France

She married Hubert Leroux and had three children by him, two daughters and a son.
After the death of Hubert Leroux she remarried to Gabriel Cardinal. After the birth of one son, Gabriel separated from his wife, claiming she was running a house of prostitution and that she was keeping her 14 year old daughter away from her husband. One might question how he didn't notice the 'house of prostitution' before he wed and had a child with her, but this is a reoccurring accusation against women of the time who didn't seem to obey their husbands. Cardinal effectively abandoned his family and headed west, as a fur trader, eventually dying in Detroit. The children were taken care of by a neighbor (Dory)
Marie Anne ran a Public House to support herself and had legal trouble for her business which was considered amoral and for selling alcohol to Native Americans. She served jail time for these offenses.
    She died in poverty.

  • In 1673 Anne-Marie Phanseque was a Filles du Roi in Montréal, Quebec, Canada.5
  • She emigrated on 14 July 1673 from La Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, France, at L' Espérance (Ship.)
  • She immigrated on 3 September 1673 to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, at L'Espérance (ship.)
