Sponsors were Barry Hanlon and Mary Hanlon. Rev. E. McCarthy officiated. She was born on February 2, 1827 in Dromgour, Ballyheigue, Kerry, Ireland., Birth date conflicts with baptismal record. Maurice O'Connor

M, #471

Biography

  • Maurice O'Connor was born in Ireland.
  • He and Mary Lynch were married before 1799 in Ireland.
  • First documented ancestor, settled on Leahy Road (O'Neil's corner) sometime around 1832. According to Selllar, at the time (1840's) there were at least 6 other O'Connor families settled on nearby farms. The relationship betwen these families is not known. Maurice had in 1842 (census) 10 cows, 1 horse, 12 sheep, and 3 pigs. He probably arrived directly from Ireland by boat to Montréal, Qc, and then by another smaller boat directly to St-Anicet.
Two of the other O'C's are probably his son James, and his brother James.
Maurice leased 100 acres of land, of which 10 acres was"improved".

Contact from Sean O'Connor who is DNA related probably via 3rd GGrandparents.
"I can trace the name OC to my GG grandfather Martin born 1827 in Curravaha, Glenbeigh to Thomas OC and Catherine Sheehan. That's right about where the records for Glenbeigh stop. I think Thomas was prob born in the same townland, as there were a few OC there. I note there was a Maurice born there in about 1842, just to show the name did exist in the wider family."
    His Lynch family:
"I believe my GG grandmother Catherine Lynch was born in Tullabeg, Killorglin in 1827 to Patrick Lynch and Mary Murphy. I note that the records for Killorglin do go back to about the time Michael was born. No parents seem to match his. Though the record does seem to have significant gaps. If he were a few years older than estimated, it is more likely that there would be no record."

Mary Lynch

F, #472

Biography

  • Mary Lynch was born in Ireland.
  • Maurice O'Connor and she were married before 1799 in Ireland.
  • Mary Lynch was also known as Marie Lench.
  • Drouin refers to her as Lynch. On Michael's wedding document, she is referred to as Lench, which is probably incorrect, father Poirier was a frabcophone and probably mispronounced/misspelled Lynch as Lench.
  • She had person sources.1
  • She is/was my 3rd great-grandmother
