She was the first white woman converted west of the Brazos River. She lived in the same house north of Brenham, TX, for over 60 years--under 4 flags. Family Papers of Evva Glayds Holmes (Mrs S R Brinkley) !OBIT: For several days past the lamp of life had been flickering in it's socket, and just as the sun went down on last Saturday evening, the spirit of "Aunt" Lydia Allcorn, left the tenement of clay in which it had dwelt formerly 86 years. Mrs Allcorn was born in Perry County, Missouri December 13, 1804, and died August 9, 1890, aged 85 years, 7 months, and 27 days. She was first married to John W Stewart at her home in Missouri, in the year 1820, with whom she emigrated to Texas in 1830. There were four children born to them, 3 of whom are ded, and the remaining one, Mr W A Stewart of Brazos County still lives. Her first husband died soon after coming to Texas and in the year 1832, she was married of James D Allcorn, of Washington County, Texas. There were born to them six children, of whom 3 are dead and 3 are living, T J, James H, and E M, all of this County. She was baptised by the Rev Mr Cox in the year 1838, and was one of the constituant members of the Independence Baptist Church, organized September 1, 1839. Some years after she transferred her membership from Independence to the First Baptist Church of Brenham, in whose fellowship she remained until the Master transferred her to membership into the Church and General Assembly of the first born in Heaven. Mrs Allcorn was a devout and consistant Christian, a devoted and an affectionate mother, a true friend, and a good neighbor, respected and loved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her children, her Church, and her friends. She was probably the oldest person in this County. A remarkable fact is, sh e lived in the same home, five miles from this city, 60 years, and under 4 different govenments. Thus has passed away another of Brenham's old landmarks, in the golden sunset of a ripe old age, honored and respected by all people. (Obituary from a clipping of a Brenham, Texas, newspaper at the time of her death.)
